TomTom is a leading manufacturer of these GPS devices, which work by linking into radio signals broadcast by satellites in orbit around the Earth to determine your position at any given moment. Software then plots that location information over the maps, creating real-time mapping showing exactly where are you, which direction you are going, how fast, and what streets are around you. TomTom takes second at 19 percent and Magellan in third with 17 percent. In Europe, it’s a different story with TomTom’s market-leading 38 percent share, followed by Garmin at 19%. TomTom unveiled a “buddy list” GPS tracking system. Too bad it doesn’t encorporate my P2P GPS traffic monitoring idea , which uses a peer-to-peer network of GPS users to track traffic patterns and alert you if there is traffic jam and automatically re-route.
